My interest in science and technology was cultivated by my parents throughout my childhood and early education. I graduated from Girls Preparatory school in Chattanooga which provided an excellent STEM foundation and sparked the interest for me to study Chemistry and Chemical Engineering for two years at Spelman college. During my time in college, I developed more of an interest in Computer Science and technology. While in school, I took an opportunity to work at Georgia Tech as a web developer on a project for the Georgia Department of Transportation. The experience and success with this initiative led my career in a technology and education focused trajectory.
In 2004, I opened and operated Boykin Learning Center which is a tutoring firm to develop students in math, science, reading, computer skills, and standardized testing prep. My professional technology journey has presently taken me to the Senior Manager of IT. Work is very busy, but a connection to community and developing young talent remain at the core of my mission. I am a mentor to students at both CGLA and UTC where I offer life and career direction. I am a board member of the Chattanooga Metro YMCA, ChaTech (Chattanooga’s technology council), Mckamey Animal Center and Girls Inc. With ChaTech, I plan events and conferences that focus on developing and fostering IT talent and development in our city.
I am excited to support and watch how the youth will shape the future of technology in Chattanooga!
